Today I woke up with an unusual pep in my step, a harder swing in my hips and my head held high. I'm proud on so many levels. Besides my own journey in life, I'm so grateful to God to witness history in the making. Earlier this year, I encountered so many people who felt at the beginning of this 2008 election journey that Obama would not make it this far. I've heard over and over that "this country is not ready for a black president; he'll never win; the job is going to be too hard" etc, but I never for a moment absorbed any of those thoughts....I never faltered on my faith. I knew from the beginning that this day would come because like many people in this country I'm hungry for change. He has not won YET, but eveyrthing within me is saying it's going to happen! Will change come easy? No. It's never easy going from status quo to uncertainty, but one things for sure...at the end of the journey, we will all learn something new and be better people for it!
Challenges will come but as Joe Biden's mother said "Failure is inevitable, but giving up is unforgivable!" Barak and Michelle's determination, faith and hard work despite all the challenges they faced has set a new bar for me. I look at them and I'm awe struck by what they have been able to achieve in just this past year alone. One of the most valuable lessons I learned about that couple is "if you have the right people on your side, there is nothing you can't conquer!"
Too often we get stuck in life on things and people that bring us down rather and lift us up. We focus too long on the speck on the floor rather than the bigger picture. Whatever you are doing right now in your life can be changed. If you are unhappy with yourself, job, want to go back to school, want to start a business, want to get married, want to learn a language; it's all possible as long as you believe it and you surround yourself with people that love and support you. If you don't have supportive people around you, then guess what? It's time to get out there and meet new people. Whatever it is that is a burning desire, don't ignore it...if there's a will there's a way. If you don't know what your passion/purpose is in life...keep trying, it'll eventually present itself.
New times are dawning, opportunities are spinning (yes, even in this bad economy) and no matter what is going on in life, it's never too late to make positive changes....you are never too young, old, fat or skinny. My new Mantra is "YES I CAN". I've always believed that there is a special place carved in this universe for us all...if only we can extend our reach and truly believe "YES I / WE CAN".
Peace, love and blessings to you all!
